At Coombe Dean School we believe that “success is built around positive relationships.”. Staying on to study with us post-16 means maintaining those positive relationships you’ve built up already and moving on to new challenges with the support of teachers you already know and trust.
Whether it is in lessons, tutorials, independent study or a wide range of enrichment activities, our Post-16 learners are able to benefit from excellent facilities and the support of experienced staff who can ensure that they make the best of every opportunity.
Please do take the time to read through the wealth of information on this website, as I am sure that within these pages you will find a programme of study that suits your needs. I would also encourage you to visit us as I am confident that, if you spend some time in our centre, you will be convinced that Coombe Dean is the right place for your next steps.
Welcome to the Coombe Dean Post 16 website. Here you can find out a bit about our centre and the range of options available for students entering the next stage of their education journey. We know that choosing where to go after GCSEs is an important and difficult decision. It’s important that you explore all the options to decide what is right for you.
With 162 students on roll, we are an inclusive sixth form offering a range of academic routes and a selection of applied learning options as well as opportunities to access vocational provisions with one of our partner colleges.
Many students come to Post 16 education to study A levels but we know there is more to it than that. CDS Post 16 works with local sixth forms Plymstock School and Hele’s School. This partnership enables our students to access a wide selection of academic and applied courses. We also work with vocational providers South West Art Warehouse, Nopro Training, Discovery College and Achievement Training to offer a range of courses from animal care to hairdressing; mechanics to construction. Students who choose this route will spend some time each week completing at least one GCSE or level 3 course at Coombe Dean School and some time at the college or placement.
If you choose to join the Coombe Dean Post 16 community you will be treated as a young adult and given access to additional privileges and freedom that make you distinct from the rest of the school – like the Post 16 common room and study pods, wearing your own clothes and independent study time – with the benefit of working within a school environment where expert staff and study resources are available to support you every day.
Post 16 is about building on the foundations laid at GCSE to explore new and familiar subjects in greater depth and detail and look towards higher education and training and, eventually, a career that suits you. Whether you have a clear plan right now or are still exploring what’s out there, we want to help you to take that next step towards your future and will try to find you a programme of study that inspires and challenges you for the next two years.
There’s so much available for you to explore and we extend an open invitation to come and visit us and see for yourself the facilities and what is on offer, giving you the opportunity to find the path that suits you and that allows you take the next step towards the future you want. Please come along to our open evening on 30th January, or contact us to book a visit.
