The Level 3 Diploma for Music Practitioners is a music industry qualification that will equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding for entry to employment in the music industry or progression to further study at a higher level. The qualification offers practical, structured learning with the flexibility to specialise in different disciplines directly relevant to the music industry including performance, technology, composition and business. Learners will study a combination of 6/7 units including the mandatory units: – ‘Rehearsal and Performance’ and ‘Planning a Career in Music’. Notable RSL alumni include Ed Sheeran and Jess Glyne.
Assessment is primarily coursework based, with one external assessment. Evidence for assessment comes in a variety of formats, tailored to the specific skill-set of the learner. These include; public performance, recorded performance and composition, video evidence, tutor observations, action plans, and project work.
Popular career choices for those with an RSL Diploma include recording artist, session musician, performer, artist support services, sound engineer and music producer.
Many students continue to university courses in popular music, music technology and music business.
Students should have a love of performance and be capable on at least one instrument or the voice.
